The CIBF translation grant

Tamil Nadu will help pay for your translation

The Government of Tamil Nadu funds the translation of Tamil books into the world’s languages. Its grant is administered by the Chennai International Book Fair (CIBF), organised by the Directorate of Public Libraries and the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, and the State commits ₹3 crore to it every year. Nivedita Louis’s books have already travelled on it into Sinhala, Malayalam and, soon, Bengali.

Who can apply
Publishers outside India, and publishers in Indian states other than Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
What it covers
Translation, publication, and the distribution of copies to public libraries in your country or region.
When
Applications are reviewed through the year, with a decision expected within about three months. Confirm the current deadline with CIBF.
  1. Agree with us. Sign an expression of interest for the title, at the fair or by email.
  2. Gather your papers. A covering letter, your publisher profile and catalogue, company registration, the translator’s profile with a 15–20 page sample of their work, and an authorisation letter from the rights holder, which we provide.
